Born 1985, Hull UK
Jane works using an indirect method in which the paintings are built up in thin layers on smooth wooden panels, gradually deepening colour and refining detail over several weeks or months. The layers of oil paint remain semi-transparent, creating extra depth and luminosity within the surface.
The timeless themes of beauty, death and decay run through her paintings, which focus primarily on personal subjects in her life and surroundings. Her influences include the meticulous paintings of early European masters such as Van Eyck, Dürer and Holbein, as well as the atmospheric worlds of Vermeer and Hammershøi.
Jane’s paintings are included in many private collections internationally, and have been shown in exhibitions throughout the UK and USA, including the BP Portrait Award at London’s National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and as part of the permanent collection of New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art, Massachusetts. Since 2020 Jane has been showing regularly with Arcadia Contemporary, New York, where she had her first US spotlight solo exhibition in 2023.
