Born in Hull, UK, in 1985, Jane’s interest in art began at an early age as her father was a heraldic artist. The family home was filled with art history books, paintings, prints and music, and her childhood talent for drawing and painting was encouraged.
Jane works in oil on wood panel, using an indirect method in which the paint is gradually built up in thin layers over several months. The colour and detail are refined with each layer and the semi transparent nature of the paint increases depth and luminosity.
Her influences are primarily the early European masters such as Van Eyck, Dürer and Holbein, as well as the atmospheric works of Vermeer and Hammershøi. Her paintings are lit with a cold northern light and the timeless themes of beauty, death and decay run subtly alongside personal subject matter. Family members, her dog and the flowers she grows in her garden are most often used as subjects.
Jane’s work is included in many private collections and has been shown in galleries and exhibitions throughout the U.K. and U.S. including the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
